I am going to try and take monthly pictures of Michael to see how much he is changing and growing his first year. I got this great idea from Young House Love to put him in a onesie and have different backgrounds each month. They did their little girl each week and they give an amazing step by step guide on how to do it all in photoshop. Check it out here.

Any who, it blew me away when I put his 0 months (1 week old) picture next to his 1 month picture. I guess I am with the little man all the time so I don't notice how much he is growing.....

Introducing Baby

One month in and I am slowly starting my entry back into the real world. SLOWLY I tell you because in all reality I can count on one hand how many times I have left my house the past 30 days. I even managed to get out of my pj's before 4pm today, most days I bathe and put the pj's right back on. But it's time, my energy level is up and Michael needs to start seeing this big bright world outside!!!!

One more picture to share with you guys of my little man. I know I have turned into one of those psycho parents that thinks the whole world wants to look at pictures of their kid. I saved the best for last!!!! By some strange miracle I got the birth announcements out in record breaking time. I took this picture of Britt holding Michael a week after he was born. I order them from Tiny Prints that same night (after some editing in Photoshop) and they literately showed up on my door step the next day. I addressed them over the weekend and voila.......

Michael Raymond

It's been 1 week and one of the most amazing weeks of my life. I was scared to death of the birthing process and my stay at the hospital. But all and all it was a great experience and I thank God for my husband being by my side for every moment. It truly is a miracle. Everything went smooth, and we all went home happy and healthy.

Tuesday morning I woke up not feeling myself, I called work and told them I would come into the office after lunch. I got in the shower at around 11am and started having contractions. I waited it out for a while and timed them 20 minutes apart. After an hour I decided to call Britt to come home, and we called the doctor. She wanted me to swing by her office so she could check to see how far along I progressed. Only 2 centimeters, so she gave us the option of going back home or going to the hospital. We opted for home. Starting at 5:30 the contractions were coming every 5-10 minutes apart and they were pretty intense. At 7:30 Britt thought that we should head to the hospital. We were seen immediately but put in a holding room for monitoring for 2 hours before they officially admitted me into the hospital. I was still only 2 centimeters but in tons of pain. We got admitted around 10pm and walked to the birthing suite. I could barely walk at this point and had to stop several times. The epidural came around midnight and it was the biggest relief of my life. We rested all night and my water broke at exactly 5am. They gave me a small dose of pitocin to get the labor moving and by 11:21am, after 45 minutes of pushing, we had a beautiful 7 pound 15 ounce baby boy.

I have to admit we have a good baby on our hands. He loves to sleep, eat and he is so content. Even with a good baby we are tired, being on call for feedings every 3 hours, lots of dirty diapers, and lots of holding and talking to our sweet little man. He is so easy to fall in love with.

Well Mr. Michael Raymond Guillory has made his grand entrance into this big beautiful world, we are beyond thrilled and madly in love!! He weighted in at 7lbs 15oz arriving January 4th at 11:21am.

We are all doing fabulous and can not wait to get home.

Still Here

We are still here and still with child. Only 10 more days till my due date but the little peanut does not seem like he is making an exit anytime soon. I do realize that could change within a day or so but nothing has happened so far. I promise to keep you guys posted, but my blogging will be at a minimum for the next few months. No new design projects will be happening around our house for a while.

More than likely we will have tons of pictures coming your way in the form of an adorable newborn or a lady that is pregnant forever!!!!

Michael's Nursery Tour

My sweet little baby boy will sleep and grow up in this room, and that makes my heart happy!! I have imagined for years what my son's nursery would look like - modern and vintage, colorful and light, playful and sophisticated. It would be a place for him to dream and grow!!!

I have poured lots of energy and time into making every detail just right. Fun enough for a kid but grown up enough that it would be an extension of our home. I wanted a room that was all his for a long time, not something that I would have to change after he becomes a little man. I didn't have a theme for the room, I just wanted things that I loved. It's very modest done on a tight budget but it's everything that I dreamed of. We are hoping to replace the old carpet by the time he starts crawling around, but that will be a project for later.

Enough talking, I will let these pictures tell the story.....

The changing table was a purchase from our Round Top trip last year. I paid a whopping $150 for the antique dresser, all I had to do was dust it off and line the drawers with contact paper.

The bookshelf has been around for years and we gave it a good sanding and painted it a BM color - Rockport Gray. The side table near the rocker is a cedar chest from my husband's grandmother, we painted the outside the same gray color as the bookshelf and left the inside cedar for more storage in the room.

The blue print that is framed in the bottom of the bookcase was free from this website. I just saved it on my computer and printed it on some thick white paper and found an old frame hanging around the house. I love this scripture verse "For I know the plans I have for you declares the Lord, plans to prosper you & not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." -Jeremiah 29:11. So fitting for a kids room and the little paper airplane in the print is so cute.

We reused a few pieces of old furniture for the nursery so we could stick to our original budget. So instead of having all these mixed matched pieces of different color wood I decided to paint them the same color so it would all match. We have an old cedar chest that is being used as a nightstand and a huge bookcase that was this ugly blonde wood. I painted them both BM-Rockport Gray and I love how they came out.

Now I am obsessed with painting all the furniture in my house gray. I think I have convinced my husband to let me paint one more piece, a dresser in our bedroom. I guess it would look a little weird if the entire house ended up gray.

Week 36

Things are not fun - it's getting difficult to breath, sleep, sit, walk, or even eat. The second I walk into my house from work the pajama pants and slippers are on and the couch is calling my name. I was in bed for 7pm last night and only got about 3 hrs of sleep. I am pretty sure this is the stage of pregnancy everyone warns you about, but I still feel blessed and happy to know that in only 28 days we will get to meet our little peanut.

The nursery is all done, and I promise that I will take some pictures as soon as I get a burst of energy (hopefully this weekend). All the baby clothes are washed, bags are packed for the hospital and the car seat is hook up. Now we just wait, wait, and wait. The big question around here is when?

Sunday and Football

Bah Humbug

Now that Thanksgiving is over we can start thinking about Christmas!!! With the birth of our first born son coming right around the corner I have decided that we are going to have a Charlie Brown tree this year with the bare minimal. I went to Paul Michael's store today and got a little tree wrapped in burlap and a nativity scene. And that my dear friends will be the extent of my Christmas decor.

But I can still enjoy some pretty pictures and inspiration from the pros.

Our little man is the size of a pineapple this week. I am defiantly in the waddle stage of my pregnancy, and its down right hard to do daily task carrying around this big belly. Only 7 more weeks of free room and board in mommies belly for the little peanut. We are going to the doctor's office every 2 weeks now, packing hospital bags, and making sure we have everything we need for a new baby. Who ever dreamed that such a little person would need so much stuff.

The nursery is 95% done, my lovely husband is priming the bookcase right now in the garage!!! Once the bookcase makes it back upstairs, a few finishing touches and I can relax and enjoy the peaceful little space we created.

Peanut Butter Blossoms

I was told to bring deserts to our little Thanksgiving gathering, and since I am the cook I get to pick what goes in my oven next Thursday (yes Thanksgiving is only a week away). Sweets have become the vain of my existence throughout this pregnancy, so everyone will be lucky if half these cookies actually make it. Who can go wrong when you mix peanut butter and chocolate - perhaps two of my favorite ingredients.

And for the husbands favorite desert I might mix him up a batch of THESE to bring along with us to visit the family. But back to my little heavenly blossoms.........

Ingredients:

1/2 cup creamy peanut butter

1/2 cup packed brown sugar

2 tablespoons milk

1-3/4 cups all-purpose flour

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup shortening

1/2 cup sugar

1 egg

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 teaspoon baking soda

Extra sugar

48 milk chocolate chips

Pre-heat oven to 375 degrees. Remove wrappers from heresy kisses. Mix together all ingredients expect the heresy kisses and extra sugar for rolling cookie ball.

Shape dough into 1 inch balls, roll in sugar and place on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake 10-12 minutes or until lightly browned. Immediately press a chocolate into center of each cookie; cookie will crack around edges.

Let cool and enjoy!!!!

Last weekend was our baby shower. It was absolutely perfect with all my favorite people celebrating this new life that is about to come into the world. I am so lucky.

Sharon Montrose Prints

We finally ordered our three Sharon Montrose prints for the nursery. I already have the empty frames hanging on the wall and it will be so nice to have them filled with these gorgeous animals for little Michael. I was not going for a "theme" for the nursery but it seems that the animals have taken over. I hope the little peanut loves animals as much as him mommy does.

I purchased three of the white Ikea Ribba Frame in 12x16 with 8x10 opening matte for $9.99 each. The prints measure 7x9 so that will leave me with a thin 1/4 inch white border between the print and the matte.

The only other design project we have left in his room is to sand and paint the big bookcase. Then it will be off to purchasing more practical things - like a car seat to take the peanut home with!!!!

Week 30

This week is a huge milestone for me (and the little peanut). Week 30: we are finally in the 30's, the baby could thrive and survive outside my belly, in the 3rd trimester, 10 weeks left, and 70 more DAYS!!! I feel like we are finally in the home stretch, my life is slowing down and I am taking time to relax and enjoy this stage in our lives.

We went for an ultrasound last week and he was weighing in at 3 lbs, which puts him in the 70th percentile for his age. Of course he was showing off for us sucking his toes, making faces, and poor baby has had the hiccups every time we take a look at him.

I have a new found respect for my mother and what she went through to have me in this world. I really can not understand how my body will handle the peanut growing anymore. But those who have gone before me assure me that I will stretch, I will grow bigger than imaginable, and I will go back to "normal."

I have been on the hunt for a round or quatrefoil shaped mirror for the nursery. I finally found "the one" but I have to say I fell in love with lots of mirrors along the way. Here are a few of my favorites...

Via Lowes (30"x30") $64.97. Warning you about the Lowes mirror: the frame is hallow plastic. While it looks great hanging on the wall, I guess sometimes you get what you pay for. For me the harsh black color did not work with the room.

Via Pier 1 (36.75") $299.99. This mirror from Pier One is absolutely gorgeous, but it was all wrong for the little space I needed it in. It was way to big and a bit on the feminine side for a little boys room.

Via Tonic Home (17") $419.00. While this little Captain's Mirror with the leather straps was the perfect size, look, and shape the price was way out of my range.

Via World Market (22"x22") $65.00. And finally here is the one I came home with!!!! It was the perfect size, perfect shape, and perfect color. With my 20% off coupon at World Market the price was not to bad.

I worked on the nursery all weekend. Painting and hanging wall shelves above the dresser, shopping, decorating, cleaning, and patching walls. It was very enjoyable (seriously) and the nursery is coming together slowly but surely. Only 11 weeks left!!! We are trying to buy a few things every month so our budget won't be hit to hard all at once. Here are a few of the things on my shopping list that have made it into the babies room already......

Pintucked Embroidered One-Piece from Janie and Jack for $10.99

Can't beat that price and this is one cute outfit, it even has a little embroider on the back pocket.

Animal Fun Flashcards from Anthropologie for $19.95

I picked my favorite three cards and used them for more art in the room. They are really sturdy stock cards from this Japanese artist named Junzo Terada. Very vintage and amazingly original.

Ikea Knipsa Seagrass Basket for $16.99

I got 2 of them and put them side by side in the big bookcase on the bottom shelf to hold toys and stuff.

Ikea Moolger Wall Shelf for $11.99.

I got 2 of these to hang above the changing table/dresser to put nicknacks on. I primed them and painted them white to match the trim. They came out really cute!!!

High and Wide

Hanging curtains - its never really fun but here are a 3 simple rules you can follow that will make all the difference in the world.

High, wide and gently kissing the ground.

That's the only rules I follow when I hang curtains in my house. I LOVE this illustration that dramatically shows how these simple steps make a huge difference.....

Whenever I can I like to put them as close to the ceiling as possible and extend out about 6 to 12 inches on each side. (If you have really tall ceilings going 12" above the window frame is a good measure.) This simple little trick makes your window look taller and grand. Check out these curtains how perfect they look in this bedroom: they are high, wide, and kissing the ground.....

Here is another perfect example. It's simple, understated and follows all the rules....

And finally here are the curtains hanging in our living room. I put them as close to the ceiling as I possibly could and hung the rod about 10" wider than the window frame. They seem to be smooching the ground instead of a gentle kiss but I have not had time to hem them.

We went to Ikea this weekend and got the finishing touches for the room. The curtains are up and I put my Sarah Jane print in the frame to hang above the crib. Still have a big to do list but it's starting to come together.......

Lucky in Love

Kitchen Dreams

One of my best friends is on the verge of building a new home here in town. I am super excited she is moving back home and super duper excited to help her decorate her new home. All this talking has got me dreaming of the day we will have our dream home.

I know exactly what I want in my kitchen. My husband wants to live on a golf course and I want a dreamy kitchen - great compromise don't you think!!!! Kitchens are medicinal, everyone always ends up in the kitchen hanging out. Here are must haves in my kitchen: white cabinets, gray countertops, and a dark wood island.

Week 25

Nesting and stretching!!

I can feel my belly stretching everyday, and the nesting bug as defiantly hit me. I spent about 4 hours taking apart the inside of the refrigerator to clean it out then I moved on to the washing machine. Who cleans the washing machine? But it was slimy dirty, now my baseboards are dusty.

Little Michael has been kicking lots lately. We read that he is starting to open his eyes this week and that he can respond and hear noises!!! He is weighing in at 1.5 pounds and is around 9 inches long. Only 15 weeks left till we get to see his beautiful face.

Bookcases

In our garage we have been storing a huge heavy bookcase from my husbands college days. It is in great shape and sturdy enough to hold up in a child's room.

Insert problem here: its this ugly blonde wood from the 80's so its going to need the old sand and paint job. I have been going back and forth between painting it white to match the trim or painting it a slightly darker gray than the walls in the nursery. Here I go with the hunt for gray colors again. I think going gray will add some depth to the room but I don't want it to fade into the walls.

I have been searching the internet for inspiration from the "professionals" that know what they are actually doing and they have some fabulous pictures that have inspired me.

When Food Works

My dear friend has started a food blog, and it's amazing. She has inspired me many times to jump out of my comfort zone in trying new foods, not to mention her out of this world cooking abilities. I guarantee her recipes are A+ and I can not wait to hear all her reviews of the local eating holes we have around town.

Check out one of her first post about the new restaurant Cochon that opened in River Ranch Thursday by Chef Donald Link. We just got back from lunch and it was beyond superb. Today is as good of a day as any to start this new adventure and let the whole world into my life as a long time food lover and cook. Some call themselves “foodies”, but I don’t really like that word, a little too trendy…and what does that really mean? Not to knock those that love that term, I just prefer to say simply that I love good food and will cook just about anything. And I can get a little obsessive, like when looking for a piece of pork belly and ending up buying a 60 pound case! Anyone need a piece of pork belly? But it did make a knockout Porchetta…later on that one. Am I sure about opening up my “food life” for public scutiny…not really, but this is a passion that I am willing to share, Anyway, why not! Do what you love and love what you do…isn’t that on some t-shirt somewhere…

Natural Cream

We finally decided on the perfect light gray color and FINISHED painting the nursery. Don't let the name fool you "Natural Cream" by Benjamin Moore is the perfect gray, it's the same color as "Egdecomb Gray" without the purple undertones. It has a boring uninspiring name but its the perfect color for me. Maybe I can write into BM and request a name change?? Gray's are hard - you have green tones, blue tones, pink tones, any color you mix with it takes on a life of its own. So to find a gray with a cream undertone was exactly what I needed for the room. After about 12 samples on the wall and weeks of contemplation my husband is sure glad we/I found the "right" color!!!!

Here is another project I am working on at the moment with baby Michael's initials. I got them at Anthropologie this weekend and thinking about hanging them above the changing table/dresser with a shelf or some pictures from Sharon Montrose. The nursery is on hold right now until I can get to Ikea for a little shopping trip. The only problem is that the closest Ikea is 3 hours away in Houston but we have 2 trips to Houston to visit family next month. I can not wait to show you guys the big reveal. My goal was to finish decorating the room before the holidays!!! Looks like we are going to make it.....

What's in a name?

Yea I know we are taking all the surprises out of the day our little man enters this big bright world. But the whole birthing process is going to be surprise enough for me for one day. So the hubs and I have pretty much decided on a name for our first born son. We are going to name him after both of our fathers "Michael Raymond" around the house we have been calling him little Michael and it really is starting to stick!!!

My dad was Michael James and like most little girls he was my hero, he passed away 8 years ago. Britt's father, Raymond Lynn, is suffering from an inoperable tumor so we wanted to honor him as well with the next generation that would carry on his last name.

Naming another human being for the rest of their life is some pretty deep stuff. We threw alot of names out there but finally both agreed on Michael Raymond. It's such a beautiful name with so much meaning!!!

My cousin is getting married and we are knee deep in the planning phase of the wedding. It's so much fun and she is letting me help her with all the details, color schemes, ideas, and venues. It's beyond exciting because the two people getting married are some of my favorite people in the world!!!!

We got a few things knocked out on our shopping list for the nursery, now we wait for them to arrive. Everything is coming together perfectly but we are taking our time and enjoying the process. Here are a few things on our list that I can not wait to put in the room.

I ordered this adorable print in a huge 24x36 poster size. We will eventually purchase a white ikea frame to hang it above the crib. I adore this print, how cute is the idea of taking a lion on a casual walk.

I fell in love with this fella, he is so unique. I had no idea what an aardvark was so I googled it, he is kinda like an anteater. I really needed him for the pops of orange that I wanted in my color scheme.

And last but not least I got 2 yards of this fabric from Joann's and sewed the bed skirt for the crib this weekend. It was fairly easy I just measured the front and two sides, cut the three pieces and made 4 hems in the fabric. I got fancy and used safety pins to connect the fabric to the crib. I wanted to be able to adjust the height once we have to lower the crib. I won't bore you with the details or post on the internet another "How to make a crib skirt" so here is a link to a good site to use.

Rocking the Night Away

Upholstered glider rockers are so expensive and a very necessary necessity in a nursery. I got quite a shock when the average cost of these "gliders" were $700-$900. I had my eye on this white slipcover glider from Pottery Barn at a lovely cost of $1,168.86 with shipping.

Not gonna happen in our nursery on our budget. I hit every store in town, ebay, craigslist and nothing was coming to fruition. I really wanted a comfortable (and cute) chair for the nursery and was not gonna give up.

Then one afternoon I went to visit my grandmother and she was getting rid of an old swivel rocker. I took it not knowing if it would work or not, but the poor chair was about to end up in the trash or on the side of the road. After looking into the outrageous cost of re-covering a chair, I thought the next best thing was to use it for its parts. More preciously it's swivel mechanism on the bottom, I got the bright idea to attach it to a newer stationary chair and make my own cute glider rocker.

I purchased this little slipcover chair from ikea for $199 and here is the story of how it is now a lovely swivel rocker for those 3am parties with baby G.

Seriously this was so easy its funny......

1. I removed the swivel mechanism from underneath the old chair.

2. Turned the new Ikea chair upside down and removed the black dust cover from underneath the chair. The chair came with the legs not attached so I just put the legs aside.

3. Reinforced the underside of the chair to make sure I had a sturdy base: Cut and screwed a block of wood 3/4" or thicker, to fit the demissions of the chair frame. I made sure the wood block was flush to the rail edges and used screws to attach it to the frame of the chair.

4. Screwed the swivel rocker base onto the center of the chair. I used the black dust cover from the old chair and stapled it around the swivel.

5. Turned upright and put the slipcover on the chair. (A good tip in this project is to make sure your chair has a skirt to the ground to hide the swivel rocker hardware.)

I am beyond happy with the outcome and its one more thing to knock off the list of things to do for the nursery. Now back to painting as you can tell with the samples on the wall.

And we still had a happy ending to that old granny rocker that saved the day. I attached the legs from the ikea to the old chair and it now lives at my other grandmothers house. She fell in love with the royal purple color and wanted to keep it.

We found out last week that a beautiful bouncing baby boy is in our future!!! My husband is beyond excited and I am thrilled. As you can see my belly is still growing, and we are at the half way mark for the big day we get to meet him. Our little man is the size of a small cantaloupe this week - wow!!!!

I am obsessing over paint. Gray paint to be exact. My nursery color to be even more exact.

I even dreamed about it last night.

I know I have a problem but the right color can make all the difference in the world. While I know most people could care less about shades and tones of what looks like the same color. Those same shades and tones drive me crazy if its wrong.

So here is where I am at today with my color:

Edgecomb Gray is out - after painting about 20% of the room I stopped and decided that is was looking a slight tint of purple.

Revere Pewter is out - to dark for the room.

So back to the drawing board to test out some new gray colors.........

They all look like the same color but I tell you once you put it on your wall with different light and different times the colors become drastically different.

Amazing Gray from Sherman Williams is a lovely gray that I have my end table and a bookshelf painted. I wanted a shade or 2 lighter for my walls. I am currently re-painting my trim Dove White!!!

One Entire Year

My husband and I celebrated our 1 year anniversary on Sunday. It was a great time to look back on our first year together and look ahead to living out our dreams, and growing our family!!

We both agreed that our first year has been delightful and easy - Britt says its because he is a push over, I say its because I found my soul mate and married the right guy!!!!

Is this not the cutest little bear you have ever seen?? My very talented aunt has been crocheting up a storm with my little bear hat pattern. I gave crocheting the good ole college try but ultimately failed with a big fat F - yes I got in over my head. I can't wait to see all the other designs and colors she is knitting up!!! I love my family!

We went visit our friends the deClouets last night to finally meet the new addition to their family. Weighing in at a whooping 6 lbs meet Mr. Dylan Michael deClouet and his first modeling gig for bear hats!!! That's my dear old husband holding the tiny little feller, makes my heart pitter patter!!!

I was hesitant to post this picture on my blog but here you go world, I am airing my dirty laundry out for all to see: the before picture. We are in the process of clearing out the room that will become the babies room. Everything has been moved in the middle of the floor and this is what my lovely little nursery looks like right now. GASP.......

It was my husbands home office / my junk room / place for anything that did not have a place. We have moved the hubs office into the guest bedroom and still trying to clear out some of the stuff. We got our rocker delivered today by my beautiful lovely sister in law all the way from Houston and our crib is in route!!! Things are moving fast, but this room needs clearing out before anything else gets done. Sigh.

My necklaces have been sitting in a cardboard box for about a year now. I know that's just horrible, but I had no place to put them. And wearing a necklace meant digging through the box and spending time untangling the mess of jewels.

I came across this idea and ran with it. I got a towel bar and shower curtain S rings at Walmart and hung it up in my closet. I spent less than $20 and now every time I get dressed in the morning I pass right by my necklaces and throw one on!!! It's just delicious.

So yes of course I have been thinking of all the fabulous ways to decorated our new nursery. I have pretty much narrowed the wall colors down to gray. I tried a little sample of BM-Revere Pewter and it was a shade to dark and different shade to cool. I am really feeling this Edgecomb Gray, it seems more of a warm tan gray color. My goal this weekend is to get a little sample of it on the wall to really test it out.

First Comes Love

Went to the doctor again today to hear the little heartbeat, it was so amazing!!! We are 14 weeks and officially in the 2nd trimester. I started a little journal (with pictures of course) to document my pregnancy. I am hoping to make a book out of it once our little bundle of joy has entered the world.

I am very excited to start decorating the nursery, and excited to keep you in the loop with every little detail. I have felt great the last few weeks but my energy was zapped, I could hardly peel myself off the sofa much less write a blog post. I was very uninspired the past 3 months. No fear the nesting is slowly kicking in and I will have mucho material for my little blog!!!

Shades of Gray

I am "thinking" of painting our master bedroom a pale shade of gray. I still want it to be a neutral color but have a little pop of color. Our bath is already a darker gray (rockport gray) so going with a lighter shade for the bedroom would make the rooms flow easily into each other. Grays are hard - you have greenish gray, brownish gray, and blueish gray. And depending on the lighting in your room they all look different. This project might take alot of "thinking"

We are back from the beach, back to reality. It was very relaxing. I took a few of my favorite magazines with me on the beach and this home feature of Steele Marcoux's cottage in the February 2011 issue of Southern Living still has me in awe.

I love so much about this living room. So simple and soft cheerful colors. The lovely turquoise velvet sofa with the huge lumbar pillow (I need that pillow), the jute rug from West Elm, and the coffee table from Target.

A few of the pieces that I purchased at Round Top Antique Fair are nestled into there new home in my house. And the other pieces are still being worked on. I am re-wiring my alabaster lamp, and waiting on a friend to come hang my Egyptian Lantern.

Here are a few snapshots in our house right now...........

The crystal chandelier is my favorite and it originally was planned to hang on top of our staircase but we liked it so much it hangs above the dinning room table. I noticed it everyday right when I walk into the house, she softens the entire room.

My little landscape print in the antique frame is hung in our guest bedroom right above the nightstand.

Down the upstairs hallway I put the dresser and antique mirror. The dresser is very old and really not good for everyday use so we store our winter blankets and granny quilts in it.

My husband had this pitcher and basin from his grandmother and it looks perfect with the dark rustic dresser.

And finally my Japanese Calligraphy brushes are in this silver pitcher...

Evergreen Of The Month

Her official name is Magnoliaceae Michelia Figo, I refer to her as my little Banana Magnolia!!! She has become one of my favorite evergreens in our courtyard (partly because she hides my huge hunk a metal called the a/c unit).

The flowers have this sweet ripe banana, juicy fruit gum, apple like fragrance that is delightful. I swear depending on the time of the day it smells different.

It's an old southern plant and everyone I talk to says "yea my grandmother had one of those in her yard."

It's early spring and the plant is full of buds and blooming!!

I love this plant.

I hope she likes her new home in our courtyard.

Please don't die on me baby!!!!

Sam's Club Flowers

It's been 7 months since our wedding. I still daydream about how wonderful, magical and perfect the entire day was. And as always I did it all on a budget, my favorite budget friendly item was our flowers. I literally saved thousands of dollars, and with some hard work and help from my friends and family we pulled off some professional looking arrangements. We used Sam's Club for all the flowers, I got an unbelievable price and they were utterly amazing!! I really can not say enough good things about my experience with Sam's. My flowers were beautiful and everyone thought I paid a fortune for them.

A Few Suggestions:

*Make sure you order them at least 2 weeks in advanced, you chose the date you want them delivered. My wedding was on Saturday afternoon so I had them delivered Thursday afternoon. The delivery man showed up exactly as promised!!!

*Make sure someone is home when they are delivered.

*Make sure you have a few 5 gallon buckets to immediately put the flowers in water.

*Make sure you have a cool place to store them.

*Make sure you have some amazing friends and family to help you put it all together.

I literally read hundreds of reviews before I placed my order and did some major research. I ordered this 17 piece white wedding collection for the bridal party. I paid $293.68 for 1 bridal bouquet, 4 bridesmaid bouquet, 1 toss bouquet, 6 boutonnieres, 4 corsages, and a box of rose petals. I took bridal pictures months before the wedding and got a professional florist to put one together for my pictures. I paid $100 for one bouquet, and the one from Sam's was much prettier. The bulk of flowers I ordered for the arrangements were hydrangeas, pale pink roses and white roses. The hydrangea I ordered were amazing, I got a few jumbo antique and the rest were just medium sized white hydrangeas. I was very happy with the quality of all the flowers. Total I paid right under $1,000 for all the flowers and we had to many (we even had flower arrangement in the bathrooms). Average cost if I would have went the professional route over $3,000!!!!

My dear friend Zoe whipped up this amazing cake topper with a few of the flowers, and she had my flower girl decked out from head to toe in flowers. She is such a talent!!!

Boy Meets World

Here we go..... this is my first attempt at a professional looking mood board. What do you think? Me and photoshop have been getting along pretty good lately. My genii pig was the little bun in the oven for our good friends the deClouets, and we are hoping its a boy or back to the drawing board with pink!!!!

I did not want the room to be all baby but also not all grown up - its a fine line. I wanted to give them something that would last years and that "MR. Bun in the Oven" could grow into. They had a few things they had collected already for the nursery and I used that as a jumping off point.

The Esty fabric was used to make a bumper for the crib, the inside was made with the stripe fabric and the outside with the bamboo fabric. The chocolate rocker was already used for their first son's nursery, so we were all about re-using and saving money. They had an old dark stained armoire given to them and we thought about adding color to the room by painting it a blue color that is one shade darker than the walls.

Honesty the paint colors are still up in the air, I have narrowed it down to my 7 favorite blues. But until we can get samples on the wall decisions will not be made. I am a Benjamin Moore paint snob so yes all my favorite blues come from them: 1-Gossamer Blue 2-Summer Shower 3-Woodlawn Blue 4-Ice Blue 5-Ocean Air 6-Moonshine 7-Iceberg

When can I quit my day job to go back to school and do this full time? It is so much fun.

23 Days and Counting

My first Round Top adventure is only weeks away. I have been dreaming of the miles and miles of antiques for over a year. While I am going with a list of things I want for my house, I am also going knowing that I will be surprised and come home with things I never imagined I needed. But the one thing I absolutely need and will not come home without is chandeliers!!!! I want a crystal one to hang in our stairway and a rustic one for over the dining table.

Stripes and Laundry

My project this weekend was to tackle my laundry room. It had become a junk/storage room with no character or style. I decided I could do something out of the ordinary here because who really looks in the laundry room. I painted horizontal stripes on the wall and I am so in love with this room now. It came out better than I ever imagined!!!!

The wall color was already White Linen from Benjamin Moore, for the stripes I went with Manchester Tan. The room is small and I wanted a calm nautical look so I picked some light colors and went horizontal . Cause everyone knows horizontal stripes make you look fat, and I needed this room to be fat. I planned on working on this project all day Saturday but it surprising only took me about 4 hours with an 1 hour break for drying time!!!

List of things you will need:

long level

Step 1 - TAPE: I decided on 9" stripes so I got my tape measure out and started measuring from the ceiling down. I used small pieces of tape to mark off every 9 inches (I did not want to deal with pencil marks on the wall). The hardest part was remembering that the tape goes on the outside of the stripes you are painting and inside on the part you are leaving alone. Basically the stripe part you are painting will measure 9" and the stripe part you are not painting will measure smaller (I used 1" tape so my "don't paint" stripe was 7"). And now I have confused all of you - I promise that is the most thinking you will have to do for this project. Use your long level when taping the wall so you will have a nice clean, even stripe!!! Once you have all your tape on the wall I used a credit card and passed it over all the tape to make sure in was stuck on the wall and to smooth out any bubbles in the tape.

Step 2 - BRUSH: Take out your brush before the roller. Use the brush for the areas near the ceiling, trim or adjacent wall where you need to paint a straight line. Then use an almost dry brush and paint along the edges of the tape. This will help you prevent any bleeding through the tape.

Step 3 - ROLLER: I waited about 30 minutes for the brushed edges to dry then I took my roller out and got to rolling on the stripe. I went with an eggshell finish and almost wish I would have picked up a satin finish paint to give the room a little depth with the different finishes. After waiting an hour I rolled a second coat of paint on my stripes.

Step 4 - TAPE OFF - It is very important that you take the tape off as soon as you finish rolling. Do not wait till the paint has dried, pull that tape off the minute you finish rolling the second coat. If you wait till it is dry the paint will peel and mess up your pretty straight lines.
